How To Fix Xbox One Controller Drift? We Gotta Go Mechanical. 1

How To Fix The Drifting Error? Follow The Drill.

Before starting the procedure to fix your controller, first I would ask you If your Xbox One controller is still under warranty? If your date of purchase is under the range of 3 months from today’s date, no need to find any method to fix this issue by yourself. Go to the store and ask them to send your controller back to Microsoft and ask them to give you a new controller as a replacement.

The warranty period for the controllers came with the Xbox One is three months from the date of purchase. Trying opening the controller by yourself will tamper the warranty seal and now your product won’t be counted as Under warranty entity by the company.

Considering that your controller is out of warranty, below are the two fixes for you written in a stepwise manner.

#FIX 1:

This method requires opening the back of the controller by unscrewing 5 screws. You will need a set of the screwdriver with compatible bits(used for laptops generally) and one packing/scotch / electrical tape. Here’s how it’s done.

Step 1: Open the battery cover and safely remove batteries from the controller.

Step 2: Remove those removable plastic pieces which help your fingers in gripping while you play. Pop them out with your fingernails or use a flat head screwdriver gently to do the work.

Step 3: Start unscrewing the now visible screws one by one. Put them on a strip of tape so that you don’t lose them.

Step 4: Remove the face cover of the controller in order to expose the joystick and buttons from inside.

Step 5: Pull out the rubber joystick which is giving you trouble, from the controller. Now the joystick module is exposed totally.

Step 6: Blow up or use an air blower to remove the dirt and dead skin around the module.

Step 7: Fix the rubber joystick again the same way it was.

Step 8: Put the face cover back on the controller and screw it all up again.

Step 9: Gently put back the side grabbing ABS pieces on.

Step 10: Refix the battery and start using your controller.

This method should be tried always before going for the next fix method as this procedure solves the issue by at least 20% of the time.

#FIX 2:

This method involves the removal of a minute part from the controller. This may sound scary to most of us but it hardly hurts the performance. As we are going through this issue, you should be ready to give away what it takes. Follow the steps now.

Step 6: Right behind the joystick module you will find a grey plastic piece. This piece is set to make the joystick retain its position after shiting to the sides. Remove this grey part gently.

Step 7: Fix the rubber joystick again the same way it was.

Step 8: Put the face cover back on the controller and screw it all up again.

Step 9: Gently put back the side grabbing ABS pieces on.

Step 10: Refix the battery and start using your controller.

Don’t think too much about the grey plastic piece. The face cover of the controller is designed to do the same recalibration work for the joystick, the grey part is there just for the backup in case the face cover fails. This fix works for more than 60% of the time for the gamers.
